Karachi, April 10, 2025 – The Pakistani automobile sector presented a mixed picture during the first nine months (July to March) of the fiscal year 2024-25, with total sales of cars showing overall growth, but sales in the 1,000cc engine segment declining sharply.
According to data released by the Pakistan Auto Manufacturers Association (PAMA), sales of 1,000cc cars dropped by a significant 32%, with only 3,689 units sold during the period compared to 5,455 units in the same period last year.
In contrast, other segments of the auto market performed robustly. The sales of cars with engine capacities of 1,300cc and above surged by 45%, reaching 35,192 units during July–March FY25, compared to 24,217 units sold in the corresponding months of the previous fiscal year. Likewise, sales of smaller vehicles (below 1,000cc) rose by 49%, with 36,382 units sold versus 24,417 units in the same period last year.
Cumulatively, car sales across all engine categories jumped 39% to 75,265 units during 9MFY25, up from 54,089 units last year. The broader auto market, which includes light commercial vehicles (LCVs), vans, Jeeps, and electric vehicles (EVs), recorded total sales of 101,183 units in March 2025. While this marks an 8% decline month-on-month (MoM), it reflects an 18% increase year-on-year (YoY). Total cumulative sales for 9MFY25 saw a 46% YoY growth.
Industry analysts at Arif Habib Limited attributed the MoM dip in March sales to the Ramadan season’s subdued business activity. However, the YoY growth was supported by factors such as declining interest rates, which encouraged auto financing, along with the launch of new car models.
Among manufacturers, Indus Motors (INDU) saw a 20% MoM increase in sales, largely due to higher sales of Corolla and Yaris. Conversely, Honda Atlas (HCAR) reported a 30% drop in car sales, while Pak Suzuki (PSMC) experienced a 20% MoM decline, particularly in models like Wagon R and Cultus. Sazgar Engineering posted modest growth in Haval car sales, while two-wheeler and tractor sales remained relatively stable.
