Pakistan seeks to strengthen trade and economic ties with Iran: PM Shehbaz

Islamabad, November 7, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong desire to enhance trade and economic cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing that both nations share deep-rooted cultural, religious, and historical ties.

He made these remarks while meeting Dr. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Friday, accompanied by a high-level delegation.

Welcoming the Iranian delegation, the Prime Minister highlighted that Pakistan and Iran have always maintained cordial and brotherly relations. He reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to promoting dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful resolution of global disputes.

PM Shehbaz also extended profound respect to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and President Masoud Pazeshkian, appreciating their leadership and vision for regional peace and prosperity.

He noted that both Pakistan and Iran have suffered from terrorism and understand the importance of unity, cooperation, and shared action to achieve stability in the region. “Both our nations are determined to work together for the unity and progress of the Muslim Ummah,” he stated.

Dr. Ghalibaf thanked Pakistan for its steadfast support to Iran during the recent Iran-Israel conflict, appreciating Islamabad’s solidarity throughout the 12-day war. He emphasized that Iran values Pakistan’s friendship and remains committed to expanding bilateral trade and parliamentary cooperation.

The meeting was also attended by Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi.
