Islamabad, May 13, 2025 — Pakistan is gearing up to begin its mango exports for the 2025 season on May 25, as announced by the Ministry of Commerce.
The date aligns with the Export Policy Order, following extensive discussions among stakeholders to finalize the timing and conditions for the export of this highly prized fruit.
As the world’s fourth-largest exporter and sixth-largest producer of mangoes, Pakistan is known for producing an impressive 1.88 million metric tons of mangoes each year. Of this, approximately 6-7% — or around 0.13 to 0.16 million tons — are exported to nearly 79 countries across the globe. Mango exports have become an essential part of Pakistan’s agricultural economy, and the demand for the country’s mangoes continues to grow in international markets.
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries are the largest market for Pakistani mangoes, with around 75% of the total exports directed to this region. The UAE, Afghanistan, and Iran are the primary importers within the GCC. Afghanistan, in particular, serves as a crucial transit hub, facilitating the export of Pakistani mangoes to Central Asia, where the demand for this fruit is also rising. In addition to the GCC, countries like the UK and USA are significant consumers of Pakistani mangoes, contributing to the growing global demand for the fruit.
In the previous year, Pakistan earned over $90 million in foreign exchange from mango exports, and the same revenue target is set for this season. The UAE remains the largest importer, followed by Iran and Afghanistan. The success of Pakistan’s mango export industry is not only a source of foreign exchange but also plays a vital role in supporting the livelihoods of millions of farmers across the country.
Pakistani mangoes are highly sought after internationally for their distinct taste, texture, and aroma. Varieties such as Chaunsa, Sindhri, and Anwar Ratol are especially popular in international markets, particularly in the Middle East. With rising global demand for premium-quality mangoes, Pakistan is poised to continue as a leading supplier, offering a significant economic boost to the agricultural sector.
As the 2025 season approaches, the expectations for Pakistan’s mango exports remain high, reinforcing its position as a key player in the global mango market.
