The ministry has informed all relevant financial institutions regarding the deduction of Zakat at source, which will be applicable to saving banks, profit and loss sharing accounts, and similar deposits. No Zakat deduction will be applied to accounts where the balance is below the stipulated Nisab of Zakat on the first day of Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1446 AH. This day has been officially designated as the “Deduction Date”, expected to fall on March 25, 2025 (subject to moon sighting). On this date, financial institutions will initiate the Zakat deduction from all applicable saving accounts, profit and loss sharing accounts, and other similar deposits.
All Zakat Collection and Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) have been directed to ensure compliance with this notification. The ministry has emphasized that deductions should strictly adhere to the Nisab of Zakat limit and be deposited into the Central Zakat Account No. CZ-08, maintained with the State Bank of Pakistan. Furthermore, a copy of the return Form CZ-08 (A&B) must be submitted to the ministry promptly after the Zakat has been transferred.
The establishment of the Nisab of Zakat is a crucial annual financial measure that ensures proper collection and distribution of Zakat funds, which play a significant role in supporting the underprivileged segments of society. Authorities urge all account holders and financial institutions to comply with the Zakat guidelines to facilitate a smooth and transparent deduction process.
