Shahwaiz Irfan and Ali Asfan propelled Pakistan Shaheens to a resounding eight-wicket victory over Papua New Guinea, securing their place in the Top End T20 Series final at the TIO Stadium in Darwin on August 04.
This impressive triumph marks Pakistan Shaheens’ second consecutive win, setting the stage for an epic clash with Northern Territory Strike in the ultimate showdown at the DXC Arena on August 06.
Chasing a target of 121 runs, Shaheens faced an early challenge but showcased their batting prowess to overcome it. Shahwaiz’s outstanding form continued as he partnered with Azan Awais, forging a remarkable 54-run stand that drove the team towards victory.

Shahwaiz’s masterful half-century, featuring 10 boundaries, added to his brilliant century in the previous match against Melbourne Stars.
Shahwaiz’s fiery knock of 54 off just 32 balls brought the team close to their target, with 51 runs needed for victory off 74 balls.
Skipper Rohail Nazir then joined forces with Azan to ensure a smooth run-chase, sealing the victory in the 13th over.

Rohail’s quick-fire 33 off 22 balls, along with Azan’s composed and unbeaten 26 off 23 balls, contributed to the team’s convincing win.
On the bowling front, Papua New Guinea faced a challenging task after opting to bat first. Left-arm spinner Ali Asfan’s brilliance wreaked havoc for the opposition as he claimed an impressive four-wicket haul. With Ali’s masterful performance leading the way, Papua New Guinea was limited to a modest total of 120 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.
Aaliyan Mahmood and Arafat Minhas also played their part, securing two wickets each to support Ali’s outstanding efforts.

Sese Bau emerged as the top-scorer for Papua New Guinea, putting up a valiant 32 runs off 28 balls, featuring three boundaries and one six.
