Islamabad, December 15, 2025 — The federal government on Monday announced a significant reduction in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs14 per liter while maintaining the petrol price unchanged for the second half of December 2025, offering relief to transporters and key economic sectors amid easing global oil trends.
According to an official notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of high-speed diesel has been cut from Rs279.65 per litre to Rs265.65 per litre, effective from December 16, 2025. In contrast, the price of petrol has been kept steady at Rs263.45 per litre for the next fortnight.
The decision was taken following recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) in consultation with relevant ministries, the notification stated. The revised prices will remain in effect for the next 15 days as part of the government’s regular fortnightly fuel price review mechanism.
High-speed diesel is widely used in heavy transport, agriculture, railways, and industrial machinery. Analysts believe the sharp reduction could help lower freight costs, ease inflationary pressure, and provide relief to farmers during the ongoing agricultural season. Petrol prices, however, were kept unchanged due to relatively stable international market conditions and fiscal considerations.
During the previous fortnightly review, the government had reduced petrol prices by Rs2 per litre and cut high-speed diesel prices by Rs4.79 per litre, reflecting a gradual downward adjustment in domestic fuel rates.
The government has reiterated that petroleum prices are reviewed every two weeks in line with global oil prices, exchange rate movements, and applicable taxes and levies, with the aim of balancing consumer relief and revenue requirements.
