Karachi, February 27, 2024 – The Pakistan stock market witnessed a challenging trading session on Tuesday, closing down by 87 points as investors grappled with mixed sentiments.

The benchmark KSE-100 index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) concluded at 63,219 points, marking a decline from the previous day’s closing figure of 63,306 points.

Analysts from Topline Securities Limited reported that the stock market index concluded the trading day with a dip of 87 points, representing a decrease of -0.14 percent. The day’s trading activity showcased a mixed pattern, with the index reaching a high of 63,622 points and a low of 63,055 points during the session.

The decline in the index was influenced by the performance of key players, with OGDC, SRVI, UBL, PPL, and PSO collectively contributing to a reduction of 207 points. On the other hand, TRG, MARI, and KAPCO provided some relief by adding a cumulative 113 points to the index.

The oil and gas sector, represented by OGDC, SRVI, and PSO, played a significant role in the negative trend. Banking and exploration companies, including UBL and PPL, also contributed to the overall decline in the market index. Conversely, technology, textile, and power sectors, represented by TRG, MARI, and KAPCO, saw positive movements that partially offset the losses.

During the trading session, a total of 409.8 million shares were exchanged, amounting to a total value of Rs 14.6 billion. Bank of Punjab (BOP) emerged as the volume leader, trading approximately 47 million shares and reflecting the active participation of investors in the market.
