Pakistan stocks gain 266 points amid subdued trading

The KSE-100 Index closes at 170,765.22 after a range-bound session as investors remain cautious amid global and domestic uncertainties.

Pakistan’s stock market ended Friday’s session marginally higher, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining 266.28 points, or 0.16 percent, amid subdued and range-bound trading.

The index closed at 170,765.22 points, compared with Thursday’s close of 170,498.94 points. The closing figure and daily gain were also reported by market data providers.

Trading remained cautious as investors monitored elevated crude oil prices and developments surrounding US-Iran negotiations, with the lack of significant progress keeping sentiment restrained.

KSE-100 trades within narrow range

The KSE-100 Index touched an intraday high of 171,159.73 points, while its lowest level stood at 169,890.56 points.

The index moved between a gain of around 0.39 percent and a decline of approximately 0.36 percent before finishing in positive territory.

Official Pakistan Stock Exchange data showed the index’s intraday low at 169,890.56 points during Friday’s session.

The mixed movement reflected a cautious approach by investors, with market participants weighing developments in international oil markets against domestic corporate and economic factors.

Banking stocks provide support

Buying interest in selected banking and energy stocks provided support to the benchmark.

HBL, UBL, BAFL, BAHL and PSO emerged among the leading positive contributors, collectively adding around 206 points to the KSE-100 Index.

The gains were partly offset by selling pressure in MEBL, FFC, HUBC, PTC and CNERGY, which together dragged the index down by approximately 152 points.

The contrasting performance of heavyweight stocks kept the benchmark within a relatively narrow trading range for most of the session.

PSO and CNERGY lead traded value

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) remained the leading stock by traded value, with transactions worth approximately Rs1.63 billion.

CNERGY followed with around Rs1.41 billion, while PPL recorded approximately Rs540 million in traded value.

SEARL and ATRL also remained among the most actively traded stocks, with transactions of about Rs530 million and Rs523 million, respectively.

CNERGY was also among the most actively traded stocks in official PSX market data.

Investors remain cautious

Overall trading volume was reported at approximately 482 million shares, while total traded value stood at around Rs19 billion.

The session reflected a cautious investor mood, with market participants monitoring movements in crude oil prices and developments in US-Iran talks for their potential implications for international markets and Pakistan’s equities.

The KSE-100’s modest gain followed a decline in the previous session, when the index closed at 170,498.94 points. Official PSX data confirms the previous close used for Friday’s session.
