Pakistan booked their place in the U19 tri-series final after registering a commanding 133-run victory over Afghanistan on Friday at the Sunrise Sports Club. The Green Shirts delivered a dominant all-round performance, led by Sameer Minhas’s composed half-century and a five-wicket haul by Umar Zaib.

Pakistan Secure Second Win, Afghanistan Eliminated

The win marked Pakistan’s second victory of the tournament, pushing them into the final alongside hosts Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe slipped to second place on the points table with four points from three matches, one behind Pakistan.

Afghanistan, meanwhile, were knocked out of the tri-series, finishing their campaign with just one point.

Sameer Minhas Anchors Pakistan’s Innings

Opting to bat first on a challenging surface, Pakistan posted a competitive 238/9 in 50 overs. Opener Sameer Minhas anchored the innings with a steady 56 off 49 balls, striking six fours and one six to top-score for his side.

He was well supported by Usman Khan, who scored 43, and Ali Hasan Baloch, who chipped in with 39, helping Pakistan build a defendable total.

For Afghanistan, Zaitullah Shaheen and Salam Khan claimed two wickets each, while Wahidullah Zadran, Nooristani Omarzai, Khatir Stanikzai, and Uzairullah Niazai picked up one wicket apiece.

Umar Zaib Destroys Afghanistan Chase

Chasing a target of 239, Afghanistan’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure, managing only 105 runs in 30.2 overs. Right-arm pacer Umar Zaib spearheaded the bowling attack, producing a match-winning spell of 5/31 in 7.2 overs.

Afghanistan captain Mahboob Khan was the top-scorer with a cautious 29 off 56 balls, while Faisal Shinozada, Khalid Ahmadzai, and Khatir Stanikzai were the only other batters to reach double figures.

Zaib received strong support from Ahmed Hussain and Momin Qamar, who took two wickets each, sealing a comprehensive win for Pakistan.

Pakistan will next take on Zimbabwe in their final league-stage match at the Old Hararians on Sunday. The two sides will then clash again in the final, scheduled to be played on January 6, setting up an exciting conclusion to the U19 tri-series.
