Pakistan, Syria move to deepen bilateral cooperation

Islamabad and Damascus reaffirm longstanding ties and discuss regional peace, stability and mutual interests.

Pakistan and Syria have agreed to further expand bilateral cooperation, reaffirming their longstanding brotherly relations and shared commitment to regional peace and stability.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar held delegation-level talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani on Thursday. The discussions covered a broad range of bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, both sides expressed their desire to strengthen cooperation across different areas and maintain close engagement between the two countries. The discussions also highlighted the importance of building stronger relations to promote shared interests and support stability in the wider region.

The Pakistani and Syrian delegations exchanged views on several major regional and international developments. Key issues included the situation in Palestine, the Golan Heights, Afghanistan, developments in South Asia and the evolving situation in the Middle East.

Dar reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. He also emphasized Islamabad’s continued commitment to peaceful solutions to regional challenges and greater cooperation among countries.

The Syrian foreign minister welcomed the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and appreciated Pakistan’s constructive contribution to regional peace and stability. He also acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to support de-escalation amid tensions involving the United States and Iran.

The talks reflected a shared understanding between Islamabad and Damascus on the importance of dialogue and diplomatic engagement in addressing regional challenges. Both countries agreed to maintain close coordination and continue consultations on issues affecting peace and security.

Pakistan and Syria also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation for peace, stability and prosperity. The two sides expressed their intention to deepen engagement in areas of common interest while supporting efforts aimed at promoting stability beyond their respective borders.
