Islamabad, March 17, 2026 – Pakistan has expressed gratitude to the Iranian government for facilitating bilateral and transit trade, ensuring smooth movement of goods amid challenging regional conditions.

Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran, thanked Tehran for its support in a statement on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday. He highlighted that land borders between the two countries are fully operational and that Green Channels at multiple border points are active, promoting efficient trade and transport of commodities.

Recent developments include a Pakistani-flagged tanker navigating the Strait of Hormuz along the Iranian coastline, signaling that Tehran’s approval may now be required for safe passage through the strategic oil chokepoint amid rising regional tensions. Bloomberg tracking data shows that the vessel, Karachi, passed between the Iranian islands of Larak and Qeshm before entering the Gulf of Oman. Following this, two bulk carriers used the same transit route, openly signaling their passage.

Ambassador Tipu emphasized that Pakistan is fully cooperating with Iran to keep bilateral trade unaffected by ongoing developments. Measures are being taken to address congestion at border points, and the embassy maintains regular contact with both official and private trade stakeholders in Pakistan and Iran to ensure immediate facilitation.

The ambassador’s remarks underline Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining smooth trade flows, even as regional security and geopolitical challenges continue to impact global shipping and transit operations.
