Pakistan Passports

Islamabad, December 5, 2025 – Pakistan is preparing to introduce an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered mobile application next month as part of a major initiative to curb illegal immigration and strengthen travel verification systems.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced on Friday that the pilot project will begin in Islamabad in January, marking a significant technological step toward ensuring secure and lawful international travel.

According to the minister, the new AI app will enable authorities to identify in advance whether a traveler is eligible to go abroad. This digital screening tool is expected to help detect individuals attempting to travel with forged or incomplete documentation. The announcement came during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain, where both leaders agreed to intensify action against fake documents and illegal travel facilitators.

The government has approved measures to make the protector issuance process more secure, alongside a series of reforms aimed at simplifying immigration procedures for genuine passengers. All departments involved in immigration and travel regulation have been instructed to submit their final recommendations within seven days. A strict crackdown has also been ordered against agent networks involved in the fake visa trade.

Minister Naqvi reiterated that once the passports of deported individuals are cancelled, obtaining new visas will not be possible. He further confirmed that the National Police Bureau will now issue a standardized international driving licence system. Emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy, he said Pakistan is engaging with foreign governments to improve the global ranking of its passport.

Federal Minister Salik Hussain stressed the importance of a transparent protector system and highlighted the need for authentic documentation for workers traveling abroad. He assured full cooperation between the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and the Ministry of Interior to implement immigration and protector reforms.

The meeting also reviewed progress on actions against illegal migrants and individuals using incomplete travel documents. Discussions covered e-driving licences, protector stamping procedures, and other immigration-related matters. Senior officials from the Interior Ministry, NADRA, FIA, Passport and Immigration Department, and other relevant agencies attended the session.
