Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirms Zil Hajj moon sighting in Karachi
Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Sunday announced that Eid al-Adha 2026 will be celebrated in Pakistan on May 27 after the moon of Zil Hajj 1447 AH was sighted.
The announcement was made following a meeting of the moon sighting committee held at the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) office in Karachi.
The session was chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, who confirmed that testimonies regarding moon sightings had been received from various parts of the country.
Zil Hajj to begin on Monday
Following verification of the reports, the committee announced that the first day of Zil Hajj will fall on Monday, while Eid-ul-Adha will be observed nationwide on May 27.
Religious scholars, meteorological officials and representatives from relevant institutions attended the meeting to review moon sighting evidence and weather conditions before reaching the final decision.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims worldwide and coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Makkah.
The announcement sparked preparations across the country, with markets expected to witness increased activity for sacrificial animals, clothing and food items ahead of the three-day religious festival. Authorities are also likely to finalize special security, sanitation and traffic management plans to facilitate citizens during Eid celebrations.
