New PHEV system aims to cut fuel costs for Pakistani bike riders

PakEVO has introduced a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) conversion kit for traditional 70cc motorcycles, aiming to provide Pakistani commuters with a lower-cost and more fuel-efficient transport option.

The company showcased the system during the Pakistan EV Expo 2026 held on May 17.

The conversion kit is designed for widely used CD70-style motorcycles and allows riders to convert existing petrol-powered bikes into hybrid vehicles without removing the original engine.

How the PakEVO hybrid kit works

According to company representatives, the system adds an electric motor to the rear wheel while keeping the conventional petrol engine operational.

The setup enables riders to switch between petrol and electric driving modes depending on travel requirements.

PakEVO installs a 0.96 kWh lithium-ion battery beneath the passenger seat to power the electric drive system. The company said the battery can deliver up to 40 kilometers of electric-only range on a full charge, making it suitable for urban commuting and short-distance travel.

The battery can be charged through a standard wall socket, with a full recharge taking around four to six hours.

The system also supports charging while riding. PakEVO claims that operating the motorcycle engine continuously for approximately 2.5 hours can generate nearly 20 kilometers of additional electric range through the bike’s alternator.

Pricing and operating costs

The company said the complete conversion package, including installation, is priced at around Rs110,000.

PakEVO added that the lithium-ion battery carries a four-year warranty and is rated for approximately 2,500 charging cycles.

According to the company’s estimates, the hybrid setup could reduce running costs to nearly Rs1.87 per kilometer compared with around Rs8 per kilometer for conventional petrol operation.

For riders covering about 1,500 kilometers per month, the company estimates potential monthly savings of more than Rs9,000.
