Islamabad, September 11, 2025 – Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have reaffirmed their commitment to enhance cooperation in the fight against narcotics following a high-level meeting held at the Ministry of Interior.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi received Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan, Chairman of the UAE’s newly established National Anti-Narcotics Authority, along with his delegation. The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration against drug trafficking and developing robust frameworks to counter emerging challenges.

Minister Naqvi warmly welcomed Sheikh Zayed and emphasized that combating narcotics remains a top national priority for Pakistan. He underlined that Pakistan, due to its geographic position, often serves as a frontline state in the global struggle against drug trafficking. The two sides discussed strategies for improving information sharing, enhancing operational coordination, and launching joint initiatives to disrupt regional drug networks.

To formalize closer cooperation, Pakistan appointed Director General Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Major General Abdul Mueed as its focal person, while the UAE designated Brigadier Taher Gharib as its special representative. Naqvi praised Sheikh Zayed on his appointment as the first chairman of the UAE’s National Anti-Narcotics Authority, calling it a milestone that will pave the way for deeper regional collaboration.

Highlighting Pakistan’s achievements, Naqvi revealed that more than 400 suspects linked to trafficking networks targeting the UAE had been apprehended, while over five tons of narcotics were seized through joint and coordinated efforts. He further warned about the rising threat of synthetic drugs, stressing that international cooperation was essential to protect younger generations.

Sheikh Zayed reiterated the UAE’s full support, noting that both countries share a responsibility to intensify anti-narcotics operations. He emphasized that stronger bilateral ties would play a decisive role in ensuring a safer and drug-free future for the region.

The UAE delegation included senior anti-narcotics officials from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Fujairah, and Umm Al Quwain. From Pakistan, senior officials of the Interior Ministry and ANF were also present.
