Islamabad, March 29, 2025 – The petroleum prices in Pakistan have been revised for the first half of April 2025, with the government announcing a slight reduction in petrol prices while keeping high-speed diesel (HSD) rates unchanged.
The latest revision comes ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, as the government continues to adjust fuel prices in line with international market trends and revenue collection targets.
In its latest announcement, the Finance Division stated that the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) would remain steady at Rs 258.64 per litre, while the price of petrol has been marginally reduced by Re 1 per litre, bringing it down from Rs 255.63 to Rs 254.63 per litre. This decision follows the government’s recent move to increase the petroleum levy (PL) on fuel from Rs 60 to Rs 70 per litre, a measure aimed at generating approximately Rs 15 billion in additional monthly revenue to offset electricity costs.
The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), which plays a key role in determining fuel prices, calculated these adjustments based on fluctuations in global crude oil prices. According to an official statement, “The OGRA has worked out the consumer prices of petroleum products, based on the price variations in the international market. The updated prices of Motor Spirit and HSD will be applicable from March 29, 2025.”
Market estimates by oil marketing companies (OMCs) had earlier suggested a steeper reduction in petrol prices, forecasting a drop of Rs 1.97 per litre, which would have brought the rate down to Rs 253.66 per litre. Similarly, the expected reduction in HSD prices was estimated at Rs 2.40 per litre, which would have set the new rate at Rs 256.24 per litre. However, the government opted for a more modest reduction, keeping petroleum prices largely stable.
The adjustment in petroleum prices is expected to impact various sectors, particularly transportation and industries reliant on diesel. Consumers and businesses should stay informed about future price revisions, as global oil trends and domestic policy changes continue to influence petroleum prices in Pakistan. The next price review is expected in mid-April, depending on international crude oil movements and government revenue targets.
