PMD forecasts isolated rain and thunderstorms in northern Pakistan on Monday and Tuesday amid continued hot and humid conditions.

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, wind and thundershowers at isolated places across parts of northern Pakistan on Monday and Tuesday, with isolated heavy rainfall also possible.

According to the latest weather update issued for August 31, 2026, continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country, while moist currents are approaching the upper regions. A shallow trough of a westerly wave is also present over northern parts of Pakistan.

Rain forecast for Monday

The PMD said hot and humid weather is expected across most plain areas of the country on Monday.

However, rain, wind and thundershowers are likely at isolated places in:

•Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

•Pothohar region

•Gilgit-Baltistan

•Kashmir

•Adjoining hilly areas

The department warned that isolated locations could receive heavy rainfall during night hours.

Rain and thunderstorms expected on Tuesday

Similar weather conditions are forecast for Tuesday, with rain, wind and thundershowers expected at isolated places in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.

Isolated heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas.

Meanwhile, hot and humid conditions are expected to continue across most other plain areas of Pakistan.

Rainfall recorded in last 24 hours

The PMD said hot and humid weather prevailed over most parts of Pakistan during the previous 24 hours. However, isolated rain, wind and thundershowers were recorded in Kashmir, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the Pothohar region and Islamabad.

In Kashmir, Muzaffarabad Airport received 27mm of rain, while Muzaffarabad city recorded 18mm and Garhi Dopatta 13mm. Kotli received 1mm.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Malam Jabba recorded 25mm, Kakul 9mm, Kalam 7mm, Lower Dir 6mm, Parachinar 3mm and Saidu Sharif 1mm, while Upper Dir received trace rainfall.

In Punjab, Islamabad’s Zero Point recorded 8mm and Saidpur Village 6mm. Sialkot City received 3mm, Murree 2mm, while Chakwal and Attock recorded 1mm each.

Temperatures remain high

Despite rainfall in northern areas, temperatures remained exceptionally high in parts of the country.

Dalbandin and Dadu recorded the highest maximum temperature at 43°C, while Nokundi reached 42°C.

The PMD’s latest outlook indicates that while northern and hilly regions may experience scattered thunderstorms and isolated heavy rainfall, hot and humid conditions will continue across most plain areas of Pakistan.

Residents in areas affected by thunderstorms have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of strong winds and heavy rainfall.
