Islamabad, December 12, 2023 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its weather forecast for Wednesday, December 13, 2023, indicating predominantly cold and dry conditions in most plain areas of the country.
The upper districts are expected to experience partly cloudy weather, adding a touch of variety to the overall climate.
According to the PMD, fog and smog are likely to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during the morning and night hours, impacting visibility and necessitating caution for commuters. The persistent fog and smog conditions have been a recurring feature in recent days, particularly during the night hours.
Tuesday’s weather, as predicted by the PMD, witnessed mainly cold and dry conditions in most plain areas of Pakistan. The upper districts experienced a combination of cold and partly cloudy weather. Notably, fog and smog lingered in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper Sindh during the night hours, affecting travel and daily activities. Western Balochistan saw partly cloudy to cloudy weather.
In terms of the synoptic situation, the PMD reported that continental air continues to prevail over most parts of the country. This dominance of continental air masses has been influencing the weather patterns, contributing to the prevailing cold and dry conditions experienced in recent days.
Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather maintained its grip over the majority of Pakistan, with the northern areas experiencing very cold temperatures. The recorded lowest minimum temperatures include Leh at -08°C, Skardu at -06°C, Gupis, Kalat, and Kalam at -05°C, Gilgit at -04°C, and Dir at -03°C. These frigid temperatures underscore the winter chill that has settled over the region.
As the country braces for Wednesday, December 13, 2023, residents are advised to dress warmly and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to fog and smog.
