Islamabad, January 17, 2026 — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released the national weather outlook for Sunday, January 18, 2026, forecasting continued cold and mostly dry conditions across much of the country.
According to the PMD, a shallow westerly wave is currently affecting the northwestern regions, influencing weather patterns in the upper parts of Pakistan.
For Saturday, partly cloudy conditions are expected, with chances of light rain and light snowfall at isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. The rest of the country is likely to experience cold and dry weather. The department has also warned that moderate to dense fog may persist over most parts of Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, potentially affecting visibility.
On Sunday, similar weather conditions are expected to continue. Partly cloudy skies with isolated rain and light snowfall are forecast for upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, while cold and dry weather will prevail elsewhere. Fog conditions are again expected to remain moderate to dense over Punjab, upper Sindh, and plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather dominated most regions, with very cold and partly cloudy conditions in hilly areas. Light rain and snowfall were recorded at isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Moderate to dense fog was observed across several districts of Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Reported rainfall included 4 mm in Kalam, while Chitral, Pattan, Astore, and Skardu received 1 mm each. Trace snowfall was recorded in Skardu and Gupis. The lowest minimum temperatures recorded were minus 8°C in Leh, minus 7°C in Gupis, and minus 6°C in Bagrote, highlighting the prevailing cold wave conditions.
