Most parts of Pakistan are expected to remain hot and dry, while rain, thunderstorms and possible hail are forecast in northern and northeastern areas.
ISLAMABAD, September 24, 2026: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast predominantly dry and hot weather across most parts of Pakistan, while rain and thunderstorms are expected in several northern and northeastern areas during the coming days.
According to the PMD’s latest synoptic situation, continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. Meanwhile, a shallow trough of a westerly wave is present over northwestern Pakistan and is likely to strengthen from Thursday evening or night.
Weather Forecast for Thursday
Dry and hot weather is expected over most plain areas of Pakistan on Thursday.
However, partly cloudy conditions accompanied by rain, wind and thunderstorms are likely at a few places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, the Potohar region and northeastern Punjab during the evening and night.
The change in weather is associated with the expected strengthening of the westerly wave affecting the northern parts of the country.
Weather Forecast for Friday
Partly cloudy weather is expected over most upper parts of Pakistan on Friday.
The PMD has forecast rain, wind and thunderstorms at isolated places in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The department has also warned that hailstorms may occur at a few places during the period.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions, particularly during thunderstorms and strong winds.
Weather During Past 24 Hours
During the last 24 hours, dry weather prevailed across most parts of the country, with hot conditions reported in the plain areas.
Partly cloudy weather was observed in northern areas, while isolated rain, wind and thunderstorms occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Narowal.
The highest rainfall was recorded at Dir (Upper) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which received 21mm, followed by Peshawar (City) with 2mm.
In Punjab, Narowal received 8mm of rainfall during the period.
Highest Temperatures Recorded
Several areas experienced intense heat on the previous day.
Shaheed Benazirabad recorded the highest maximum temperature at 46°C, while Sakrand, Padidan and Hyderabad each recorded 44°C.
Dadu recorded a maximum temperature of 43°C.
The PMD said hot and dry conditions are expected to persist over most plain areas of Pakistan, while the strengthening westerly wave could bring unsettled weather, including rain, thunderstorms, strong winds and possible hailstorms, to parts of the upper regions.
