Islamabad, October 9, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its weather forecast for Thursday, October 10, 2024, indicating a predominantly dry weather pattern across much of the country. However, residents in specific regions can expect isolated rain, wind, and thunderstorms, particularly in Gilgit-Baltistan and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The PMD’s synoptic analysis highlights that continental air is currently dominating most areas, complemented by a shallow westerly wave affecting the upper parts of the country. This meteorological setup suggests that while the majority of Pakistan will experience dry conditions, the mentioned regions could see brief periods of precipitation, particularly during the late afternoon or evening hours.
On Wednesday, October 9, 2024, dry weather prevailed in most parts of Pakistan, although some areas received significant rainfall. Isolated thunderstorms and gusty winds were reported in Gilgit-Baltistan, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and parts of Kashmir. These conditions contributed to scattered rain and windstorms across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir, with notable rainfall totals in various locations.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kalam received 31 mm of rain, followed by Dir (Upper) at 29 mm and Chitral at 20 mm. Other areas, including Peshawar and Bannu, also reported substantial rainfall, with airport measurements in Peshawar recording 15 mm. Meanwhile, in Punjab, Kot Addu and Layyah experienced light showers, receiving 5 mm and 3 mm, respectively. Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir also recorded modest precipitation, with Muzaffarabad (both Airport and City) receiving 4 mm of rain.
Temperatures have varied significantly across the country, with Nawabshah and Chhor reaching sweltering highs of 41°C and Mithi recording 40°C. The PMD urges citizens to remain cautious, particularly in the regions expecting thunderstorms, and to stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
As the month progresses, the PMD will continue to monitor and provide updates on changing weather patterns, emphasizing the importance of being prepared for unexpected conditions. For now, residents are advised to enjoy the predominantly dry weather while remaining vigilant for potential storms in the forecasted regions.
