Islamabad, October 23, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued its weather forecast for Thursday, October 24, 2024, predicting primarily dry conditions across most regions of the country. However, certain northern areas can expect rain and thunderstorms, providing some relief to these regions.
According to the PMD, dry weather is likely to dominate most parts of Pakistan on Thursday, with a few exceptions. Cloudy skies, accompanied by rain, wind, and thunderstorms, are anticipated in isolated locations, particularly in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and the Potohar region.
The synoptic situation driving these conditions is due to the presence of a shallow westerly wave affecting the western and northern parts of Pakistan. This westerly disturbance is expected to cause the isolated rainfall in these areas while leaving the rest of the country dry.
For Wednesday, October 23, 2024, the weather was largely consistent with Thursday’s outlook, featuring mainly dry conditions in most regions. However, scattered rain and thunderstorms were observed in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where several locations received moderate rainfall.
Rainfall over the past 24 hours
Several regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa experienced light to moderate rain, with notable rainfall measurements in the following areas:
• Malam Jabba: 09 mm
• Lower Dir and Saidu Sharif: 08 mm
• Peshawar and Takht Bai: 06 mm
• Kakul: 05 mm
• Balakot: 04 mm
• Bacha Khan Airport and Mir Khani: 02 mm
• Drosh: 01 mm
Maximum temperatures recorded today
The country experienced high temperatures in some regions, particularly in Sindh. The highest maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was:
• Shaheed Benazirabad: 40°C
• Skarand, Thatta, Hyderabad, Chhor: 39°C
As the country transitions into the cooler months, these weather patterns reflect typical conditions, with drier weather prevailing in most areas, while the northern and mountainous regions experience periodic rains due to westerly disturbances.
For the upcoming days, residents in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit Baltistan, Kashmir, and Potohar should be prepared for potential rain and thunderstorms, while the rest of the country will continue to experience dry and warmer conditions.
The PMD advises the public, particularly those in rain-affected areas, to stay updated with local weather warnings and take precautions during thunderstorms.
