Islamabad, December 24, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast cold and dry weather across most parts of the country over the next 48 hours, with very cold conditions expected to persist in northern and hilly regions.
According to the PMD, continental air continues to prevail over most areas of Pakistan, resulting in a drop in temperatures, particularly during night and early morning hours. The prevailing synoptic situation is likely to keep weather conditions stable but chilly, especially in inland and elevated regions.
For Wednesday, the Met Office said cold and dry weather will dominate most parts of the country, while very cold conditions are expected in northern areas including Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern Balochistan. Residents in these regions have been advised to take precautionary measures against severe cold. In addition, shallow to moderate fog may develop during the night in plain areas of northeast and south Punjab, as well as parts of upper Sindh, which could affect visibility and disrupt road traffic.
On Thursday, similar weather conditions are expected to continue. Cold and dry weather is likely to prevail across most regions, while very cold conditions will persist in northern areas. The PMD has again warned of shallow to moderate fog during the night and early morning hours over parts of Punjab and upper Sindh, urging motorists to exercise caution.
The PMD also shared details of weather conditions recorded over the past 24 hours. Cold and dry weather remained dominant across the country, with extremely low temperatures reported in northern regions. Leh recorded the lowest minimum temperature at minus 9 degrees Celsius, followed by Kalat at minus 6 degrees Celsius and Ziarat at minus 5 degrees Celsius. Skardu, Quetta, and Gupis recorded minus 4 degrees Celsius, while Kalam and Astore saw temperatures of minus 3 degrees Celsius. Dir and Malam Jabba reported minimum temperatures of minus 2 degrees Celsius.
The Met Office advised the public to stay updated on weather advisories, particularly in fog-prone and cold-sensitive areas.
