Pakistani rupee gains 3 paisa against US dollar in interbank market

US Dollar Currency New

Karachi, December 22, 2025 – The Pakistani rupee strengthened slightly against the US dollar on Monday, gaining 3 paisa in the interbank foreign exchange market, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The dollar closed at Rs280.22, down from last Friday’s Rs280.25, reflecting a minor appreciation in the local currency. Currency dealers noted that the rupee’s modest gain was primarily due to lower demand from importers and increased selling of dollars by exporters seeking favorable exchange rates.

Market analysts also highlighted that recent inflows from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), along with steady remittances from overseas Pakistanis, have contributed to stabilizing the rupee and supporting the interbank currency market.

Financial experts observe that the rupee is likely to remain stable in the near term, supported by a strong external position and a positive balance of payments, with the current account posting a surplus in November 2025.

However, analysts cautioned that the demand for US dollars may rise in the coming weeks due to increased import requirements for raw materials and ongoing economic activity, which could put some pressure on the currency.

Overall, the interbank market displayed moderate stability, signaling confidence in Pakistan’s external sector despite global currency fluctuations. Traders and investors are advised to monitor daily exchange rate updates, as the rupee’s movement will continue to be influenced by import-export dynamics, remittances, and foreign inflows.
