Pakistani middle-order batter Asif Ali has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career marked by resilience, power-hitting, and emotional highs and lows.

The 34-year-old shared the news via Instagram on Monday, calling his time in the national jersey the “proudest chapter” of his life.

In a heartfelt statement, Ali wrote, “Wearing the Pakistan jersey has been the greatest honour of my life. Representing my country on the cricket field is a privilege I will always cherish.” He also extended gratitude to his fans, coaches, and teammates for their unwavering support throughout his journey.

Ali made his international debut in 2018 and last appeared for Pakistan during the Asian Games in October 2023 against Bangladesh. Over his five-year career, he featured in 58 T20Is and 21 ODIs, amassing 959 runs and showcasing his aggressive batting style that often turned matches in Pakistan’s favour.

Reflecting on his personal struggles, Ali acknowledged the emotional strength he drew from his family during difficult times, particularly the tragic loss of his young daughter during the 2019 World Cup. “Your strength carried me forward,” he said.

Asif Ali was a key member of Pakistan’s squads in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cups of 2021 and 2022, famously playing crucial innings against New Zealand and Afghanistan in 2021. His contributions leave a lasting impact on Pakistan’s cricket history.
