Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan grow by 17%

Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan have surge by 17.02% in first 8 months of fiscal year (2022-23).

According to data from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Pakistan’s export of goods and services to Afghanistan has seen a significant increase of 17.02% during the first eight months of the current fiscal year (2022-23) compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.

The overall exports to Afghanistan during July-February (2022-23) reached US $346.522 million, showing a growth of 17.02% from the US $296.109 million exports during July-February (2021-22).

On a year-to-year basis, exports to Afghanistan have increased by 60.49% from US $38.222 million in February 2022 to US $61.345 million in the same month of 2023. Meanwhile, the exports also surged by 82.58% on a month-on-month basis during February 2023 as compared to the exports of US $33.598 million in January 2022.

However, Pakistan’s exports to other countries witnessed a decline of 9.65% in the same eight-month period, from US $20.632 billion to US $18.639 billion, according to the SBP data.

On the other hand, imports from Afghanistan to Pakistan during the period under review decreased by 88.65% to US $13.540 million against US $119.328 million last year. On a year-on-year basis, the import for Afghanistan also declined by 98.89% from US $13.723 million in February 2022 to US $0.151 million in February 2023.

Nevertheless, imports from Afghanistan to Pakistan increased by 11.02% on a month-on-month basis during February 2023, as compared to US $0.136 million imports in January 2022.

The trade figures revealed that the trade of goods and services with Afghanistan has witnessed an increase of 88.35% in surplus during the period under review as against the corresponding period of the previous year. The surplus was recorded at US $332.982 million, showing growth of 88.35% from US $176.781 million during last year.
