Islamabad, September 20, 2025 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has officially declared that the monsoon season of 2025 has retreated from most parts of the country. The withdrawal signals the end of widespread seasonal rains, with a transition toward hot and dry weather in many regions.
According to the PMD, no significant rainfall activity is expected in the coming days. Areas previously affected by floods in Punjab and Sindh are forecast to remain dry, with temperatures rising during the day. However, in upper parts of the country, night-time weather is likely to remain comparatively comfortable. The PMD emphasized that the conclusion of the monsoon marks a critical change for agricultural activities, water management, and overall climate conditions.
Synoptic Situation
A continental air mass is now prevailing over most of Pakistan.
Saturday Forecast
Mainly hot and dry weather will dominate most regions, while partly cloudy conditions may occur in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and nearby hilly areas.
Sunday Forecast
Similar hot and dry weather is expected across much of the country.
Past 24 Hours
Hot and dry conditions prevailed widely, though rain and thunderstorms occurred at isolated places in Upper Punjab and Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rainfall was recorded in Sargodha (70mm), Mangla and Gujrat (8mm each), and scattered locations in Punjab and KP.
The PMD noted that with the monsoon retreat, temperatures are expected to remain high in the plains. Yesterday, Nokkundi recorded the highest maximum at 41°C, followed by Dalbandin at 40°C.
The end of the monsoon also marks a seasonal shift toward dry spells until winter rains begin.
