Islamabad, December 31, 2025 — The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Wednesday announced that the total number of telecom users in the country has crossed 200 million, reflecting strong and sustained growth in Pakistan’s digital landscape.
In its Annual Report 2024–25, the PTA highlighted improved performance, sectoral stability and rapid expansion across the telecom industry. The report revealed that broadband connections exceeded 150 million, while nationwide telecom coverage rose above 92 per cent. Broadband penetration also crossed 60 per cent, underlining accelerated digital adoption among consumers and businesses.
According to the report, the telecom sector’s total revenue surpassed Rs1 trillion, posting a 12 per cent year-on-year increase. The sector’s contribution to the national exchequer climbed to Rs402 billion, compared to Rs336 billion in 2024, while total investment increased by 9 per cent to $838 million.
The PTA noted that continued expansion of telecom infrastructure significantly boosted data usage, which reached 27,727 petabytes in 2025. Currently, 95 per cent of cellular networks across Pakistan are 4G-enabled, supported by 17.21 Tbps of international bandwidth. To further strengthen regional and global connectivity, four new high-capacity submarine cables are being added to the national network.
The authority also facilitated the rollout of national roaming and supported infrastructure development across Pakistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Strong growth was recorded in local mobile device manufacturing, with more than 95 per cent of mobile phones, including 68 per cent smartphones, now produced domestically.
On cybersecurity, the report said Pakistan’s global ranking improved as PTA strengthened cyber resilience through the National Telecom Security Operations Center (NTSOC). Enhanced consumer protection measures led to a 13 per cent reduction in complaints, indicating better service quality and regulatory oversight.
The Annual Report underscores PTA’s focus on 5G readiness, stronger cybersecurity frameworks and the development of a future-ready digital economy.
