Islamabad, May 16, 2025 – Pakistan’s textile exports have shown a strong performance during the first ten months (July to April) of the fiscal year 2024-25, reaching close to the $15 billion mark.

According to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the country’s textile exports rose by 8.41%, totaling $14.83 billion compared to $13.68 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

This growth in textile exports has been primarily driven by a significant increase in the shipment of several key textile products. Notably, exports of knitwear surged by 15.47%, reaching $4.12 billion, up from $3.57 billion last year. Bed wear exports also posted healthy growth, increasing by 12.18% to $2.57 billion.

Other textile categories contributing to the export surge include towels, which grew by 4.49% to $903.33 million, and tents, canvas, and tarpaulin products, which increased by 11.65% to $109 million. The export of readymade garments saw a notable boost, rising by 17.52% to $3.39 billion compared to $2.89 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Additionally, the export of art silk and synthetic textile grew by 9.74% to $330.86 million, while made-up articles (excluding towels and bed wear) rose by 9.10% to $642.65 million. Exports of other miscellaneous textile materials also showed a modest increase of 2.59%, totaling $610.87 million.

Despite these gains, some segments of the textile sector experienced setbacks. The export of raw cotton plummeted by 98.45%, reaching just $0.87 million from $56.09 million last year. Cotton yarn exports declined by 31.91% to $576.02 million, while cotton carded or combed exports nearly disappeared, dropping by 99.28% to just $6,000. Similarly, exports of yarns other than cotton fell slightly by 4.08% to $27.59 million.

On a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, textile exports for April 2025 dipped slightly by 1.35%, recording $1.22 billion as compared to $1.24 billion in April 2024. Moreover, on a Month-on-Month (MoM) basis, textile shipments dropped sharply by 14.64% in April 2025, down from $1.43 billion in March.

Overall, while there are fluctuations in some areas, the upward trend in Pakistan’s textile exports underlines a resilient performance in the sector amid global economic challenges.
