Karachi, September 16, 2024 – Pakistan’s textile exports have witnessed a significant growth of 5.37% during the first two months (July–August) of the current fiscal year 2024-25, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) on Monday. The country’s textile exports reached $2.92 billion during this period, up from $2.77 billion in the corresponding months of the previous fiscal year.
This increase in textile exports reflects the sector’s resilience and steady recovery amid global economic challenges. According to the PBS, several key segments within the textile industry experienced notable growth, contributing to the overall rise in exports.
Knitwear, one of the largest contributors to Pakistan’s textile exports, showed a robust growth of 7.15%. Exports of knitwear reached $820.59 million during the first two months of FY25, compared to $765.80 million during the same period last year. This growth can be attributed to rising demand for casual and comfortable clothing in international markets, a trend that has gained momentum post-pandemic.
Similarly, bedware exports saw a significant increase of 7.61%, climbing to $505 million in July and August 2024, compared to $469 million in the corresponding months of FY24. The demand for Pakistani bedware continues to remain strong, particularly in European and North American markets, known for their preference for high-quality textile products.
The towel segment also recorded growth, with exports rising by 6.87% to $170.77 million during the first two months of the fiscal year, up from $160 million in the same period last year. The increase in towel exports highlights the competitiveness of Pakistan’s textile industry in meeting international standards of quality and production.
In addition, readymade garments posted the highest growth among the key textile segments, with an impressive 18% increase in exports. The segment’s exports surged to $658.50 million during July and August 2024, compared to $559 million during the same period last year. This growth underscores Pakistan’s rising stature as a key player in the global apparel market, fueled by its skilled labor and competitive manufacturing costs.
The steady rise in textile exports showcases the sector’s potential to drive Pakistan’s economic growth, contributing significantly to foreign exchange earnings. Experts believe that with continued government support and investments in technology and infrastructure, Pakistan’s textile sector can maintain its upward trajectory in the coming months.
