Fans of the animated sci-fi film Transformers One, featuring the voices of Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson, may be disappointed as new developments suggest that a sequel is not in the works.
Director Josh Cooley, known for helming the 2024 release, confirmed during a panel at the Transformers convention BotCon that Paramount Animation currently has no plans to continue the franchise with a second installment.
Transformers One is an American animated science fiction action film based on Hasbro’s iconic toy line. The movie earned widespread critical acclaim for its engaging storyline, high-quality animation, and stellar voice cast. In addition to Hemsworth and Johansson, the cast also featured the talents of Jon Hamm, Steve Buscemi, Brian Tyree Henry, and Vanessa Liguori.
Despite the film’s success, Cooley shared that the studio isn’t moving forward with a follow-up at this time. “I wish I had something to announce, but I do not,” he told fans. “What I’ve been told is that Paramount Animation is not interested in making a sequel.”
The 46-year-old director expressed his disappointment, noting that he has several creative ideas for a potential sequel. “I wish we could. I have ideas, too. So, it would have been cool. We’ll see what happens. You never know.”
Cooley’s remarks have left fans speculating about the studio’s decision, especially given the film’s positive reception. With Hemsworth and Johansson bringing star power to the project, many had expected a continuation to be a natural next step.
For now, the future of Transformers One remains uncertain. While the door may not be completely closed, there is currently no confirmation of further development from Paramount. Fans will have to wait and see if the studio changes its stance and allows Cooley’s vision for a sequel to come to life.
While Transformers One captured audience interest with its strong voice cast and compelling animation, the absence of a sequel confirms Paramount Animation’s cautious approach moving forward. Despite director Josh Cooley’s enthusiasm and creative ideas, fans will have to settle for the original film—at least for now—as the future of the franchise remains uncertain.
