Leandro Paredes, one of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup champions, has officially returned to Boca Juniors, the club where he began his professional career.

The 31-year-old midfielder signed a contract with Boca through December 2028 after completing a transfer from AS Roma.

His return follows a decade-long journey across European football, where he played for Chievo Verona, Roma, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus.

Paredes’ comeback was met with great enthusiasm by Boca supporters and the Argentine media. During his official unveiling, the veteran midfielder expressed strong motivation to help the team win major titles, especially the prestigious Copa Libertadores.

He mentioned feeling physically and mentally ready to take on the challenge and noted that he had matured significantly both personally and professionally during his time abroad.

A key factor behind his return to Argentina was his family’s desire to come back home. His wife and children reportedly encouraged him to make the move without hesitation. Paredes credited their unwavering support as instrumental in his decision to rejoin the Buenos Aires club.

Although Boca Juniors are set to begin their 2025 Primera Division Clausura campaign this Sunday against Argentinos Juniors, Paredes admitted he might not be immediately available for action due to a recent vacation.

Despite this, he showed full commitment to regaining match fitness quickly and contributing to the team’s objectives. He expressed a strong desire to achieve major success with Boca once again, stating that winning the Copa Libertadores was one of his top goals.

However, he also acknowledged that such ambitions require a step-by-step approach and consistent performance.

Paredes originally debuted for Boca Juniors in 2010, where he made 31 appearances before moving to Europe. Now returning as a seasoned international and a World Cup winner, his presence is expected to significantly strengthen Boca’s midfield and leadership as the team targets both domestic and continental success.

With his wealth of experience and winning mentality, Paredes is set to play a crucial role in Boca’s quest for silverware in the coming seasons, aiming to deliver results that match the high expectations of fans and club management alike.
