Paris Jackson has opened up about the realities behind her sobriety journey, offering an honest and deeply personal reflection ahead of a major milestone. The singer-songwriter marked nearly six years sober from alcohol and heroin, which she will officially complete on January 7, by sharing a candid message with her followers on Instagram.
In her post on Sunday, the 27-year-old emphasized that sobriety does not automatically mean life becomes easy. Alongside her words, Jackson shared a series of understated photos capturing everyday moments from her life, including time spent outdoors, quiet solo drives, reflective pauses alone, and meaningful moments with friends. The images reflected a sense of calm and authenticity rather than perfection.
Addressing the challenges she faced in recovery, Jackson wrote that several years into sobriety, life became “very, very hard.” She explained that without substances, she had to relearn how to cope and develop new survival skills. “Getting sober ain’t always the indication that life is perfect,” she wrote, adding that she had to learn how to live “life on life’s terms.”
Jackson also spoke openly about her ongoing mental health struggles, including treatment-resistant major depressive disorder, complex PTSD (CPTSD), and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). She used her platform to reassure others facing addiction or mental health battles that they are not alone. Ending her message with compassion, she wrote, “Hang in there. If no one’s told you they love you today, I love you.”
The daughter of the late Michael Jackson has long been transparent about her recovery. At the Friendly House Awards Luncheon in October 2025, she likened sobriety to a car accident, explaining that unresolved emotions surface once substances are removed. Today, Jackson says she continues to learn how to navigate life with honesty, resilience, and self-compassion.
