Injured openers to continue rehabilitation under PCB medical panel ahead of Australia series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has ruled out opening batters Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub from selection for the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia national cricket team due to injuries.

The three-match ODI series is scheduled to begin on May 30 during Australia’s tour of Pakistan.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the PCB said both players are currently undergoing rehabilitation and have been advised to continue recovery programmes under the supervision of the board’s medical panel.

“As a result, both players will not be available for selection for the ODI series,” the PCB said.

The cricket board wished the two openers a speedy recovery and expressed hope for their return to competitive cricket at the earliest opportunity.

The PCB added that further updates regarding the national squad and player fitness would be shared in due course.

The absence of Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub is expected to force Pakistan’s team management to reconsider its opening combinations ahead of the home series against Australia.

Both players have been key contributors in Pakistan’s limited-overs setup, particularly in aggressive starts at the top of the batting order.

Pakistan is expected to announce replacement opening options in the coming days as preparations intensify for the high-profile ODI series against Australia.
