PCB Unveils Major Reforms to Boost Pakistan Cricket

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced a series of significant reforms aimed at revitalizing the national cricket team and strengthening domestic cricket infrastructure.

These decisions, made during a high-level meeting chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, focus on enhancing player performance, fitness, discipline, and coaching standards.

A notable highlight of the reforms is the inclusion of head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie in the men’s selection committee. This strategic move is anticipated to bring fresh insights to player selection and improve team cohesion.

Additionally, the PCB has made participation in domestic cricket mandatory for national team selection, underscoring the importance of grassroots development.

To ensure peak physical condition, players will now undergo fitness tests every three months. The PCB has also adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards indiscipline and infighting within the team, signaling a strong commitment to fostering a positive team environment.

Recognizing the need for improved player development, the PCB plans to upgrade existing high-performance centers and establish new facilities in Peshawar and Islamabad. Separate coaches will be appointed for the U-19 and Shaheens teams to enhance youth development.

Despite the recent performance in the T20 World Cup, the PCB has decided against revising player central contracts. Instead, annual reviews will be conducted to assess player performance and fitness.

Additionally, the board has introduced a technical process for granting No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players to participate in foreign leagues.

Chairman Naqvi expressed confidence in the coaching staff and reiterated the PCB’s commitment to creating a high-performance culture. He emphasized the importance of investing in young talent and improving the quality of domestic cricket.

The reforms also include plans to review men’s domestic contracts and enhance the performance of the women’s cricket team. The PCB is determined to create a robust cricket ecosystem that produces world-class players and brings pride to the nation.
