Manila, July 17, 2024 – The Philippines is rolling out the welcome mat for cruise ship passengers with the launch of a new visa waiver program designed to attract more tourists. This initiative aims to streamline entry procedures and position the Philippines as a more attractive destination in Asia’s cruise market.
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has announced the “cruise visa waiver program,” which eliminates visa requirements for foreign tourists arriving on cruise ships. This move simplifies the entry process for vacationers, allowing them to spend more time exploring the Philippines’ many wonders. By easing the bureaucratic process, the program seeks to enhance the overall travel experience for cruise passengers.
“The cruise visa waiver program aligns with our vision of establishing the Philippines as a premier cruise hub in Asia,” declared BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco. He emphasized the program’s significance in revitalizing the tourism industry, which was heavily impacted by the pandemic. The Philippines received over 101,000 cruise passengers in 2023 through 123 port calls. With the new program in place, the BI anticipates a rise in cruise arrivals to 117, potentially bringing in 118,000 visitors in 2024. The cruise visa waiver applies solely to foreign nationals who require a visa for entry. It allows for a single entry with a limited duration, ensuring visitors arrive and depart on the same cruise ship. The waiver is not convertible to another visa type and cannot be extended.
