PKE vs USD: Rupee strengthens 4 paisa against dollar in interbank market

US Dollar Currency New

Karachi, December 12, 2025 – The Pakistani rupee showed signs of stability on Friday, gaining 4 paisa against the US dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market, according to currency dealers and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

As per SBP data, the US dollar closed at Rs280.32, slightly lower than the previous day’s closing of Rs280.36. Market analysts said the rupee maintained its strength despite it being the last trading day of the week, reflecting growing confidence in Pakistan’s currency.

Experts attributed the modest appreciation of the rupee to recent inflows from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and a notable increase in workers’ remittances for November 2025, which bolstered foreign exchange reserves. Additionally, a weakening of the US dollar in international markets contributed to the local currency’s relative strength.

However, currency dealers cautioned that with increased economic activity, particularly in manufacturing and industrial sectors, the demand for dollars is expected to rise in the coming days due to the need for imported raw materials. This could potentially put pressure on the rupee in the short term.

Over the past several days, the rupee has been gradually gaining against the US dollar, reflecting a combination of positive foreign inflows and market stability. Analysts suggest that continued inflows, supportive government policies, and global currency trends will play a critical role in determining the rupee’s performance in the near future.

The steady performance of the rupee is being closely watched by investors, importers, and exporters, as fluctuations in the currency directly impact trade, inflation, and overall economic stability.
