PKR gains against USD on strong remittance inflows

Pakistan Rupee

Karachi, February 10, 2026 – The Pakistani rupee (PKR) gained three paisa against the US dollar (USD) on Tuesday, driven by strong inflows of remittances, currency dealers said.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the US dollar closed at Rs279.67 in the interbank market, up from the previous day’s Rs279.70. Dealers noted that positive market sentiment was largely influenced by the latest remittance data released by the central bank.

The SBP reported that workers’ remittances surged by 15% to $3.47 billion in January 2026, compared to $3 billion in the same month last year. Market participants attributed the inflows to Pakistanis abroad sending money to families ahead of Ramadan, along with additional export-related foreign currency receipts, which collectively supported the rupee against the greenback.

Currency experts highlighted that while the PKR’s gains reflect improving foreign inflows, the country will need sustained inflows to balance an expected surge in imports due to an uptick in economic activity.

Adding to the positive outlook, the SBP recently projected GDP growth of 3.75–4.75% for FY2025-26, signaling a strengthening economy. Analysts said that continued remittance growth and export inflows could help stabilize the PKR and support Pakistan’s overall foreign exchange position in the coming months.
