Islamabad, June 2, 2025 – The federal government of Pakistan has officially announced the Eid-ul-Adha holidays, confirming a four-day break for citizens across the country.
According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday, public holidays will be observed from June 6 to June 9, allowing time for people to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, which falls on Saturday, June 7.
The holidays apply uniformly to all government offices, whether they operate on a five-day or six-day work week. This declaration gives many employees a long weekend to observe Eid festivities, attend prayers, and participate in traditional sacrifice rituals.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan government has issued a separate notification through its Services & General Administration Department, declaring Eid holidays from June 5 to June 8. As per the Balochistan directive, employees will resume duties on the third day of Eid, which is Sunday, June 8.
In line with the Islamic calendar, the first day of Zil Hajj was observed on Thursday, May 29, 2025. Eid-ul-Adha, which falls on the 10th day of Zil Hajj, coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage and is regarded as one of the two most significant festivals in Islam, alongside Eid-ul-Fitr.
With the Eid holidays approaching, preparations are in full swing across the country. Livestock markets have been set up in major cities and towns, offering cows, goats, sheep, and camels for the traditional Qurbani sacrifice.
Known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” Eid-ul-Adha honors the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s (PBUH) devotion and willingness to sacrifice his son as commanded by Allah, before being divinely guided to offer a ram instead.
The holiday is marked by congregational prayers, family meals, and generous acts of charity. Sacrificial meat is distributed among family, friends, and the less fortunate, reinforcing the spirit of sharing and compassion during the Eid season. The Eid holidays provide an opportunity for spiritual reflection and community bonding throughout Pakistan.
