Islamabad, July 26, 2025 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has approved the development of a state-of-the-art digital ecosystem within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to ensure end-to-end monitoring of the entire value chain. This ambitious initiative aims to align Pakistan’s tax infrastructure with international best practices.
The approval came during a high-level meeting held to assess the progress of ongoing FBR reforms. The Prime Minister emphasized that the country’s economic outlook is improving, largely due to the robust steps taken in reforming the FBR.
The meeting was attended by key figures including Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahsan Iqbal Cheema, Minister of State Bilal Azhar Kayani, FBR Chairman, Chief Coordinator Musharraf Zaidi, and senior economic advisors.
Officials briefed the Prime Minister on efforts to establish a modern digital system that would centralize FBR’s data and facilitate real-time value chain tracking—from the production and import of raw materials to manufacturing and final consumption.
Shehbaz Sharif instructed that this system must go beyond simple digitization; it must evolve into a comprehensive digital ecosystem. The goal is to digitally monitor every stage of the value chain, enabling transparent data collection and analysis for strategic economic decisions.
He stressed that the value chain data should be leveraged to dismantle the informal economy and broaden the tax base. Only then, he noted, can the burden on the common taxpayer be reduced.
The Prime Minister also directed the immediate hiring of internationally reputed experts to ensure the success of this digital transformation initiative, which is expected to significantly enhance FBR’s efficiency and accountability.
