PM Shehbaz approves major reforms to modernise TDAP and boost exports

Government plans a 12-month reform programme to transform TDAP into a world-class trade promotion organisation, with digital platforms, AI and performance-based management.

Islamabad, November 6, 2026: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday approved a comprehensive plan to modernise the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) to boost exports, expand access to international markets and improve the competitiveness of local industries and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Chairing a high-level meeting, the prime minister said modernising TDAP would help Pakistani manufacturers access global markets and strengthen the country’s export potential.

He directed officials to establish a complete ecosystem covering the entire value chain for agricultural exports and recruit highly qualified professionals through a transparent, merit-based process.

Shehbaz also ordered that professional growth within the authority be linked to performance and target achievement. He directed the appointment of a reputable private audit firm to conduct financial and performance audits.

During the meeting, officials presented a comprehensive reform package aimed at transforming TDAP into a world-class trade promotion organisation.

The proposed reforms include streamlining its mandate into eight core functions, restructuring its board and management, optimising regional offices, introducing digital platforms and artificial intelligence (AI), and establishing measurable performance indicators.

Officials also presented a phased 12-month implementation roadmap covering approval, design, execution and independent assessment.

The prime minister directed that the reforms be completed and fully operational by the middle of 2027.

He said Pakistan had significant export potential and a strategic geographical location, adding that the government was facilitating industries and SMEs to capitalise on these opportunities and increase exports.
