Islamabad, August 15, 2024 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, in a heartfelt address on Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, urged the nation’s youth to play a pivotal role in steering the country toward prosperity, stability, and peace.
Speaking at a ceremony dedicated to the independence celebrations, he emphasized that the future of Pakistan rests in the hands of its younger generation.
“The next few years are crucial for both you and the nation,” the Prime Minister advised, urging the youth to focus on their education, particularly skill-based learning. He warned them against falling prey to the negative agendas of those who seek to exploit their potential for anti-state activities. “The enemy is now resorting to digital terrorism to derail our progress,” he cautioned.
In his speech, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his warmest congratulations to the people of Pakistan and paid tribute to the sacrifices of the nation’s forefathers and countless unsung heroes of the Pakistan Movement. He acknowledged their relentless struggle, which culminated in the creation of an independent and sovereign state on August 14, 1947, under the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Reflecting on the country’s journey over the past 77 years, the Prime Minister acknowledged that it has not always been smooth. However, he highlighted the resilience of the Pakistani people in the face of natural disasters, economic hardships, and social challenges. “We must learn from our past and move forward with a renewed commitment to drive Pakistan toward prosperity and development,” he urged.
Addressing the pressing issues of inflation, unemployment, and high electricity bills, Prime Minister Shehbaz assured the nation that the government is working tirelessly to provide relief. He acknowledged that electricity costs are a significant burden on the people and the country’s industries, agriculture, and exports. “Without reducing electricity tariffs, we cannot achieve the growth we need,” he emphasized, promising that the government would soon announce a significant reduction in electricity costs.
The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the nation’s heroes from various fields, including sports, education, and health. He specifically lauded Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem, who won a gold medal for Pakistan at the Paris Olympics, and who was present at the ceremony alongside his mother.
In his concluding remarks, Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the vision of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He announced that he would soon present a five-year economic plan for the country. Additionally, he condemned the ongoing Israeli atrocities against Palestinians and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kashmiri people in their struggle for self-determination.
