Islamabad, March 1, 2026: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday chaired a high-level meeting to review the evolving regional situation, Pakistan’s internal security environment, and measures to ensure the safe evacuation of Pakistani citizens from Iran amid rising tensions in the region.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office Media Wing, the meeting conducted a detailed assessment of the prevailing regional security dynamics and discussed Pakistan’s diplomatic and strategic role in promoting peace and stability across the region. Participants also deliberated on various measures aimed at de-escalation and fostering regional cooperation.
The situation in Afghanistan came under thorough review, with officials briefing the prime minister on recent developments and their implications for Pakistan’s security and border management. The country’s internal security arrangements were also examined, including steps being taken to maintain law and order and strengthen national preparedness.
On the prime minister’s directives, the meeting reviewed the ongoing efforts to evacuate Pakistani nationals from Iran. The Foreign Office provided a comprehensive briefing on arrangements to ensure the safe and orderly return of citizens. It was informed that the evacuation process is being facilitated through Azerbaijan, with close coordination among relevant departments to expedite the operation.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal, Mohsin Naqvi, Azam Nazir Tarar, Ahad Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, along with senior civil and military officials.
The prime minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace and stability and emphasized the government’s top priority of safeguarding the lives and well-being of Pakistani citizens at home and abroad.
