PM Shehbaz Directs Increasing Exports Two-fold in 5 Years

Islamabad, April 2, 2024 – Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed the formulation of a strategy aimed at doubling the country’s exports within the next five years.

This directive came during a high-level meeting on the export sector chaired by the Prime Minister.

The meeting, attended by ministers including Jam Kamal, Rana Tanveer Hussain, prominent E-commerce entrepreneurs like CEO Utopia Jabran Niaz, Zeeshan Shah, Salman Ahmed, and other relevant authorities, focused on devising strategies to enhance Pakistan’s export capabilities.

According to the PM Office Media Wing’s press release, PM Shehbaz emphasized the importance of formulating a comprehensive strategy in consultation with successful entrepreneurs and stakeholders to achieve this ambitious goal.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the Ministry of Trade to extend facilitation to exporters in the E-Commerce sector and resolve the issues faced by “Made in Pakistan” brand exporters. He stressed the importance of supporting those exporters who have been showcasing Pakistani products to the world through E-Commerce platforms.

Furthermore, PM Shehbaz underscored the need to maximize the utilization of the export sector by promoting industries such as IT, domestic use items, textiles, and other exceptional sectors. He emphasized the importance of engaging relevant stakeholders in the promotion of these sectors.

The meeting also discussed proposals and recommendations for the development of the export sector and the strategy required to achieve the targeted increase in exports. PM Shehbaz highlighted the importance of promoting industries that are exporting items included in the global value chains.

The directive to double exports within five years reflects the government’s commitment to boosting Pakistan’s economy through increased international trade. Enhancing exports is crucial for economic growth, job creation, and reducing the trade deficit.
