Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the NDMA to mobilise all available resources to support communities affected by heavy monsoon rains and strengthen coordination with provincial authorities.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to use all available resources to provide relief to people affected by monsoon rains and ensure close coordination with provincial departments and Provincial Disaster Management Authorities (PDMAs).
The prime minister issued the directives during a meeting with NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, who briefed him on the ongoing monsoon season and the country’s preparedness to deal with heavy rainfall and possible flooding.
Shehbaz stressed the need for stronger coordination among relevant institutions to ensure the smooth movement of traffic on link roads and bridges during periods of heavy rain. He also called for timely delivery of relief supplies to affected communities.
The NDMA chairman briefed the prime minister on the expected pattern of the current monsoon season and measures being taken to prepare for potential emergencies. He highlighted the importance of cooperation between federal and provincial institutions in responding effectively to weather-related disasters.
According to the briefing, relevant departments have already taken proactive measures, following the prime minister’s instructions, to improve monitoring of the monsoon season and strengthen preparedness.
Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik assured the prime minister that relevant departments across the country were fully prepared to undertake rescue and relief operations in the event of emergencies caused by heavy rains or flooding.
The meeting comes as authorities remain focused on strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring a coordinated response to weather-related emergencies. The NDMA and provincial disaster management authorities are responsible for coordinating rescue, relief and emergency response efforts in affected areas.
The prime minister directed the relevant authorities to maintain effective coordination and remain prepared to respond promptly to any situation arising from the ongoing monsoon rains.
