Islamabad, December 20, 2024 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a special committee to oversee the revision of existing allowances and the potential introduction of new benefits for government employees. According to an official memorandum issued by the Finance Division, the committee has been formed specifically to evaluate proposals for revising allowances during the ongoing financial year. The committee, chaired by the Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue, includes key members from various government divisions, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the matter.
The composition of the committee is as follows:
• Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue: Chairman
• Federal Minister for Economic Affairs: Member
• Minister of State for Finance and Revenue: Member
• Secretary, Finance Division: Member
• Secretary, Cabinet Division: Member
• Secretary, Establishment Division: Member
• Secretary, Defence Division: Co-opted Member for Armed Forces
• Secretary, Interior Division: Co-opted Member for Civil Armed Forces
The committee has been tasked with a clear mandate, as outlined in its Terms of Reference (ToRs). It will meticulously review all proposals submitted to the Finance Division concerning the revision or introduction of allowances. After thorough analysis, the committee will recommend suitable revisions or grants to the Cabinet for consideration during the annual budget approval process.
