ISLAMABAD, April 19 — Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Masoud Pezeshkian on Sunday, with both leaders discussing the evolving regional situation and efforts to promote peace through dialogue, officials said.
During the call, which lasted around 45 minutes, the two leaders exchanged views on recent developments in the region and emphasised the importance of diplomatic engagement to address ongoing challenges.
Shehbaz thanked the Iranian leadership for dispatching a high-level delegation to Islamabad earlier this month, led by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, for talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and coordination.
The Pakistani premier also briefed Pezeshkian on his recent interactions with leaders from key regional countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye. He said the engagements had helped build consensus in favour of dialogue and diplomacy to achieve lasting peace in the region.
Shehbaz further acknowledged Iran’s constructive engagement during recent discussions with Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, during his visit to Tehran.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, the prime minister said Islamabad would continue to work with regional partners to support peace and stability through sustained diplomatic efforts.
He also conveyed his regards to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.
President Pezeshkian, in turn, appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to ongoing peace efforts and said Tehran valued its ties with Islamabad. He expressed confidence that relations between the two neighbouring countries would continue to strengthen.
Both sides agreed to maintain close contact and coordination on regional developments, underscoring their shared interest in promoting stability and cooperation.
