Islamabad, November 1, 2025 – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commended the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for achieving a historic milestone of 5.9 million income tax return filings during the fiscal year 2025 — the highest in Pakistan’s history.
In an official statement on Friday, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation to the nation for their growing sense of civic responsibility, noting that 900,000 new taxpayers entered the tax net this year. “This reflects the public’s increasing trust in the government’s economic and fiscal policies,” he said.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that the government’s tax reforms are beginning to show tangible results. He credited the FBR’s modernization efforts and performance-based culture for the improvement, emphasizing that meritocracy and accountability have been made core pillars of the tax administration.
The Prime Minister revealed that he personally oversees the digitization of FBR, conducting weekly progress meetings to ensure transparency and efficiency. The simplification of tax return filing, automation of port clearance systems, and the expansion of the Point of Sale (POS) network, he noted, have significantly reduced corruption and sales tax evasion.
Shehbaz further stated that these initiatives have resulted in a Rs9 billion increase in revenue compared to the previous fiscal year — a testament to the success of ongoing reforms.
“The process of reforming FBR continues without pause,” he affirmed, pledging to eradicate corruption, enhance transparency, and broaden the tax base for sustainable economic growth.
