PM Shehbaz meets global finance giants to boost Pakistan investment

Barclays, J.P. Morgan, Citi, BlackRock and Rothschild & Co discuss Pakistan’s reforms, capital markets and investment opportunities.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held meetings with senior representatives of leading international financial institutions during his visit to the United Kingdom, focusing on Pakistan’s economic reforms, investment opportunities and financial-sector cooperation.

The meetings were held with executives from Barclays, J.P. Morgan, Citi, BlackRock and Rothschild & Co. The engagements highlighted international financial institutions’ interest in Pakistan’s economic stabilization efforts and the country’s evolving investment environment.

During his meeting with Mohammad Kamal Syed, Head of Private Bank and Wealth Management UK at Barclays, the prime minister welcomed the bank’s interest in Pakistan. He outlined the government’s measures aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability and encouraged Barclays to examine opportunities in Pakistan’s financial sector.

A high-level J.P. Morgan delegation, led by Matthieu Wiltz, Co-CEO for EMEA, also met Prime Minister Shehbaz. Discussions covered cooperation in capital markets, trade finance and investment banking. The delegation expressed interest in sovereign debt capital markets and corporate banking opportunities while the prime minister invited the institution to further expand its operations in Pakistan.

The prime minister separately met senior Citi officials led by Chief Client Officer David Livingstone. He appreciated Citi’s longstanding presence in Pakistan and encouraged the bank to broaden its corporate and institutional banking activities.

BlackRock and Rothschild Discussions

During talks with BlackRock representatives Gordon Fraser, Sam Vecht and Emily Fletcher, Prime Minister Shehbaz invited the investment firm to consider greater allocations to Pakistani equities and fixed-income instruments under its frontier markets strategy.

Both sides emphasized the importance of consistent economic policies and reforms to support investor confidence and encourage sustained international participation.

The meeting with Rothschild & Co representatives Lord Mark Sedwill and Majid Ishaq focused on Pakistan’s geo-economic priorities and possible cooperation in capital markets and investment strategy.

Officials from the institutions expressed continued interest in Pakistan’s reform momentum and financial sector, according to the government.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Privatization and Privatization Commission Chairman Muhammad Ali also attended the meetings.

The engagements form part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen international investor confidence, expand financial-sector partnerships and attract sustained foreign capital into Pakistan.
