New fleet from China will strengthen emergency response services in Islamabad with advanced firefighting and rescue capabilities.
Twenty-one new rescue and firefighting vehicles for Islamabad Rescue 1122 and the Fire Brigade have arrived at Karachi Port from China, marking the first major addition to the emergency fleet in 17 years.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Karachi Port and inspected the newly arrived vehicles. The fleet is scheduled to be transported from Karachi to Islamabad within five days, where it will be deployed to strengthen emergency response operations across the capital.
The interior minister described the arrival of the new vehicles as an important development for Islamabad’s emergency services. He said the expansion represents the biggest addition to Islamabad Rescue’s fleet since 2009 and would improve its ability to respond to emergencies.
Naqvi also acknowledged China’s role in the delivery of the vehicles, noting that the Chinese government had expedited the supply of the modern emergency fleet.
The new rescue vehicles will operate around the clock from six stations located across Islamabad. Their deployment is expected to enhance the city’s preparedness for fires, rescue incidents and other emergencies requiring specialized equipment.
According to officials, the vehicles are equipped with advanced systems and can support rescue and firefighting operations at heights of up to 256 feet. This capability is intended to improve emergency response for incidents involving high-rise buildings and elevated structures.
The new fleet includes four aerial fire trucks, six fire towers and five fire tenders. The vehicles feature modern firefighting and rescue equipment designed to provide emergency personnel with enhanced operational capabilities.
The arrival comes as Islamabad continues to expand its emergency response infrastructure. The addition of specialized vehicles is expected to provide Rescue 1122 and the Fire Brigade with greater capacity to manage emergencies across different areas of the federal capital.
Several senior officials were also present during the inspection at Karachi Port. These included the Chief Collector Customs Appraisement South, Collector Appraisement East, Additional Collector Appraisement East, Chairman CDA and Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Director CDA and representatives of the National Logistics Corporation (NLC).
